Filion cafe

Filion cafe (formerly Dolce) at 34 Skoufa Street, next to Agios Dionysios church, opened its doors in 1992. Proof of the gathering of intellectuals in this classic Athenian and rather upper class hangout, reminiscent of the breezy Italian cafes of Via Venetto, is the famous painting that adorns the wall of the inner room and depicts its patrons, from the “trademark” of the shop, acclaimed actor Konstantinos Tzoumas, to award-winning authors like Vasilis Vasilikos, Nanos Valaoritis, Christos Chomenidis and Petros Tatsopoulos, beloved Greek songwriters Loukianos Kelaidonis and Manos Eleftheriou, and intellectuals such as Giorgos Veltsos (Greek sociologist, university professor and writer, awarded the 2007 Academic Phoenix Medal by the French government). A whole series of brilliant writers, poets and more continue to shape its reputation up to today.
