The ultimate literary cafe opened in 1944 as "BRAZILIAN COFFEE STORES" by Evangelos Saravanos, at 1B Voukourestiou Street (formerly Jan Smuts), on the corner of Stoa Spyromiliou (Spyromelios Arcade). It was a classic cafe for intellectuals where outstanding Greek writers such as the Nobelist Odysseas Elytis, Nikos Gatsos, Vassilis Vassilikos, Andreas Empeirikos, Takis Sinopoulos and many others, often on their feet, used to crowd in every afternoon. Its proximity to the "Pyrsos" bookstore also contributed to the establishment of the "Brasilian" as a literary hangout. One of its regulars, Kostas Tachtsis, wrote The Symphony of Brazillian in 1954 with illustrations by the acclaimed painter Alekos Fasianos, dedicated to this cafe which closed its doors in 2002. In its place today stands the"Clemente".
